Does
AVP allow PKI Token Signing for Medicare purposes?
Yes. - Medicare PKI Tokens are fully supported on AVP. Medicare Australia
requires the electronic referrals from GPs to Specialists and Diagnostic
Imaging and Pathology requests be electronically signed using a PKI individual
Certificate (TOKEN). Of course there is no need to sign other types of
documents, but AVP will electonically sign any document you require.
Why
not just use secure Email?
The main reason are these:

Secure email is in the wrong format for Health Messages. Recipients
will need to apply the message manually to the patients record.

You generally need to install certificates for all of your recipients
in a third party application or address book.

It is often easy to "forget to" Secure or Sign your email!

There is no guarantee of delivery and no way to automatically apply
any acknowlegements to the patients record.

There has been very poor update of PKI because existing solutions are
generally cumbersome and difficult to manage and maintain.
AVP overcomes
these problems by:

Letters and referrals are converted into Health messages understood
by your practice software and can be automatically applied to the patients
record (even creating the record for you).

Alltalk will automatically aquire PKI certificates for the recipients
where present. In other cases the messages are delivered via existing
encryption technologies without compromising digital signature.

Only one address book entry is required - the one in your practice software.
When a recipient changes encryption certificates, Alltalk will automatically
re-aquire the new one.

More than 1600 practices are able to accept your messages TODAY with
no changes at their end.

You cant just "forget" to secure or sign the document. AVP documents
are always secure and using AVP templates, Referrals are always "signed"
by default.

To ensure the recipient knows that they arent required to keep the paper
copy, AVP includes Signing Certficiate information inside the electronic
message. For those patients who feel more comfortable with a paper copy,
AVP prints a reminder at the bottom of the page that a digitally signed
electronic message has been generated.
Do
I need to use Medical Director?
No - AVP will work with many Practice Software programs. It also works
with Microsoft Word. Your practice software may already support Direct
communications via Alltalk The following packages include direct support
for Alltalk. You will only need AVP for signed referrals.

uses a commonly used method Third Party communications. Contact your Practice
software vendor to see if they support this method.
How Alltalk routes Messages
How
much does it cost ?
Around $200. Some pathology providers supply AVP for free to their referrers.
Please contact your current pathology provider for more information on
free copies of AVP.
I
don't have AllTalk - can I still use AVP ?

Many pathology and radiology providers use AllTalk or EQuery for message
delivery services. Ask your provider if they have AllTalk

Yes - it is possible to use AVP to generate electronic messages for
delivery by other services, e.g. HealthLink.
Is
there a version of AVP for Macintosh Computers ?
The
Genie Practice software has direct support for AllTalk for sending where
there is a mixed PC and Mac environment only. Practices that do not own
PCs, need to install Virtual PC or configure PC on an Intel Macintosh.
Will
AVP cause problems for other programs on my computer ?
No. AVP is a very small, single executable, i.e. in simple terms, nothing
but a single file is "installed" on your computer. You could even run
AVP from a USB disk (RAM key) without actually copying any files onto
your computer, although AVP will automatically create an "AllTalk" printer
on your system.
Is
it hard to install ? No - generally AVP will automatically
configure itself. For Medical Director users, there is also a wizard to
help you install the AllTalk Letter Template into your letter writer.
You may need some help to locate the AllTalk "Outbox" folder, but assistance
is available from your pathology provider or from LRS for this task.

Can
I use AVP with EQuery ?
Yes - although there is nothing to be gained from this. We recommend upgrading
from EQuery to AllTalk at the same time as installing AVP.
